Planet Clicker: Play the Free Online Idle Clicker Game
Planet Clicker is a free space game you play in your browser. You click Earth to make energy, then spend that energy on machines that make energy for you. Save enough and you can buy Mars, then Venus. The game is ready to play below, and under it you will find every upgrade price, what each planet costs, and the fastest way to get off Earth.
What Is Planet Clicker?
Planet Clicker is an idle clicker game where you click a planet to make energy, then spend that energy on machines that make more for you. Save enough and you buy the next planet, which has its own shop with much stronger upgrades.
The whole game uses one thing: energy. There are three planets. Earth is free, Mars costs 1 million energy, and Venus costs 1 trillion. Nothing is locked behind money, there are no lives to lose, and no timer is counting down.

Here is what makes it easy to pick up:
Who Made Planet Clicker
Planet Clicker was made in 2020 by a developer called Coltroc. He built it in Scratch, the free coding tool run by MIT. The game spread quickly through free game sites, and people still play it years later. Coltroc later made a sequel, Planet Clicker 2, with more planets and new artwork.
How to Play Planet Clicker
Your goal is to make as much energy as you can, and use it to buy all three planets. You do that by clicking at first, and by building machines after that.
The Basic Loop
The whole game is five steps, repeated:
- Click the planet. Every click gives you energy.
- Open the shop. The SHOP button is in the bottom right corner.
- Buy an upgrade. Some upgrades make each click worth more. Others make energy on their own, every single second.
- Let the machines work. The more you own, the faster your energy grows without you clicking.
- Buy the next planet. When you can afford it, move on. The new planet has a better shop.
That is it. There is nothing hidden and no trick to learn.
What Each Button Does
Your First Five Minutes
Follow this order and you will not waste a single click:
- Click Earth to 20 energy and buy the Earth Clicker. Your clicks are worth double from now on.
- Buy two or three Campfires at 100 each. Each one gives you 1 energy per second while you do nothing.
- Save up to 800 and buy a Farm. That is 10 energy per second, worth ten Campfires.
- Stop clicking. From here, spend on the best machine you can afford and let it run.
How the Energy System Works
Energy is the only thing you collect. You get it in two ways, and they work very differently.
Clicking gives a set amount each time you tap. You start at 1 energy per click, and every Earth Clicker doubles that. The catch is that it only works while your hand is moving, and there is a limit to how fast anyone can click.
Machines give a set amount every second, with no clicking at all. Campfires, farms, windmills and factories all work this way, and they pay you the whole time the game is open.
Why this matters: clicking has a ceiling. Machines do not. So the smartest thing you can do is turn your clicks into machines as fast as possible, then let those machines buy the next ones.
Each machine costs a lot more than the one before it, but it also pays a lot more. Your income grows faster than the prices do. That is why the first few minutes feel slow and everything after your first Farm feels quick.
Every Earth Upgrade and What It Costs
There are six things to buy on Earth. These are the starting prices, which is what you pay for your first one of each. The last column is something the game never shows you: how much each point of income costs you.
| Upgrade | Starting Cost | What It Gives You | Price per 1 energy/sec |
|---|---|---|---|
| Earth Clicker | 20 | Doubles your click power | Not applicable |
| Campfire | 100 | +1 energy per second | 100 |
| Farm | 800 | +10 energy per second | 80 |
| Animal Farm | 10,000 | +120 energy per second | 83 |
| Windmill | 75,000 | +1,000 energy per second | 75 |
| Factory | 250,000 | +5,000 energy per second | 50 |
Prices Go Up Every Time You Buy
This is the one rule that catches new players out. Every time you buy something, the next one of that item costs more. Buy a Campfire for 100 and the next Campfire is dearer. Buy that one and the third is dearer again.
So the prices in the table above are only true for your first purchase of each item. The more you own of something, the worse a deal it becomes.
Why this matters: do not pick one machine and buy it forever. Each item gets more expensive as you stack it, while the next item up is still sitting at its cheap starting price. Keep an eye on both numbers and move up a tier when the bigger machine becomes the better buy.
Which Upgrade Is the Best Deal
Take the price and divide it by the energy per second. That tells you what each point of income really costs you. The lower the number, the better the deal. Do this with the price on screen, not the starting price, because the number on screen is what you actually pay.
The Factory is the clear winner at 50 energy per point. That makes it twice as good as a Campfire. Keep it in mind from the very start, because knowing a 250,000 machine is waiting changes what you buy at 800.
One item is not what it looks like. The Animal Farm seems like a big step up from the Farm, and it does give twelve times more energy. But per energy spent it gives slightly less: 83 against the Farm’s 80. Buy it if you want fewer trips to the shop, but it saves your time, not your energy.
At starting prices, the best deals in order are: Factory, Windmill, Farm, Animal Farm, then Campfire. Once you own a stack of any of them, run the sum again.
The Three Planets and What They Cost
Earth is free and ready from the start. Mars and Venus both have a price, and the gap between those two prices is huge.
| Planet | Price to Unlock | What Is in Its Shop |
|---|---|---|
| Earth | Free | Earth Clicker, campfire, farm, animal farm, windmill, factory |
| Mars | 1,000,000 energy | Solar, oil, coal, nuclear and alien technology |
| Venus | 1,000,000,000,000 energy | Iron, lava and Future Technology |

Earth
Earth is normal, everyday power. Campfires, farms, windmills and factories. Everything here is cheap and easy to understand. Earth is where you learn the game and earn your ticket out.

Mars
Mars costs 1 million energy. The red planet drops the campfires and farms and gives you solar, oil, coal and nuclear power instead, ending with alien technology. Everything here pays far more than the Earth version, so the move is worth it quickly.
Mars is closer than the price sounds. One Factory makes 5,000 energy per second. At that rate, 1 million energy takes a little over three minutes of just sitting there. Get one Factory running and Mars is almost in your pocket.

Venus
Venus is the last planet and costs 1 trillion energy. Its shop runs on iron and lava, and right at the bottom sits Future Technology, the strongest upgrade in the game. Getting it is as close to finishing as Planet Clicker gets.
Do not think of Venus as the next step after Mars. It costs a million times more. Earth machines will never pay for it, so you need Mars income working first.
Saving, Stats, Reset and the Leaderboard
Everything above works the way the original game does. This section covers the parts you will use around the game itself.
Your Progress Saves in Your Browser
The 2020 version had no save at all. Refresh the page and your run was gone. Many guides online still say this, because it was true for years.
On this page your energy, machines and unlocked planets are saved in your browser, so you can close the tab and come back to the same run.
A few things to know:
Player Stats
Click the three-line button under the speaker and the game shows your Player Stats. There are four numbers in there:
- Time played is how long this run has been going.
- Total energy is everything you have ever made. Spending never lowers it.
- Energy spent is how much has gone into upgrades.
- Clicks is how many times you have tapped the planet.

Why this matters: Total energy is the number the leaderboard uses. Your energy balance goes up and down as you buy things, but Total energy only ever goes up.
The Leaderboard
Open the gear menu, pick a username, and you can see how you rank against other players. The board uses your total energy for the whole game, not the energy sitting in your balance.

That is good news. Buying upgrades never costs you your place, so spend freely. Every machine you buy makes more energy, and more energy means a better rank.
Reset Game
The gear menu also has a Reset game button. It takes you back to the very start, and your energy, machines and planets are all deleted.

Tips to Grow Your Energy Faster
Buy the Earth Clicker first, every time.
It costs 20 energy and doubles every click after it. Waiting to save for a Campfire instead just means more clicking.
Spend, do not save.
Energy in your balance earns nothing. Three cheap machines running now will beat one expensive machine bought later.
Divide the price by the energy per second.
This one bit of maths tells you the real best buy. It is how you spot that the Factory is excellent and the Animal Farm is only okay.
Click hard for the first two minutes only.
Your hands matter at the start and almost nowhere else. Once Farms are running, clicking barely adds anything.
Buy a few cheap machines, then move up.
A couple of Campfires get your income started much faster than clicking. But they get pricier each time, so switch to the Farm as soon as it is the better deal.
Leave Earth as soon as you can pay for Mars.
Earth machines bought after the 1 million mark are wasted energy. That same energy buys far more on Mars.
Watch the per second number, not the total.
The big number tells you what you can afford today. The small one tells you how fast tomorrow arrives.
Mute the game if you leave it open.
The speaker button on the left turns the sound off, which makes it much easier to leave a long run going while you do something else.
Pick your leaderboard name early.
Your rank comes from total energy, so set your name before the run gets big.
Planet Clicker vs Planet Clicker 2
| Planet Clicker | Planet Clicker 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Planets | 3 (Earth, Mars, Venus) | 6, going out to Neptune |
| Released | 2020 | 2022 |
| Artwork | The original look | Redrawn and updated |
| Shop | One short list per planet | A longer list per planet |

So, start with the original if you want a game you can actually complete in a few sessions. Move to the sequel when you want more planets and a longer road.

Final Thoughts
What makes Planet Clicker worth your evening is how fair it is. Nothing is behind a paywall, nothing makes you wait, and every single upgrade you buy speeds up the next one.
If you are starting today, use the same opening every time. Click to 20, buy the Earth Clicker, add Campfires at 100, then push for the Farm at 800. After that, always buy the machine that gives the most energy per second for the price on screen, and move up a tier when your current one gets too dear. Keep going until you own a Factory, then watch your total climb to 1 million on its own. Mars is where the game stops being about your hand and starts being about your machines.
